Sunday read for Australian shoppers. The Brisbane Lions are premiers, the Reserve Bank meets on Tuesday, and several good weekend offers finish tonight. Here is what a rate rise would cost a typical mortgage, which deals end today and Monday, and what the latest supermarket price check found. In today’s Top 5, Elite Supps takes first place with clearance lines up to 94% off.
What a Tuesday Rate Rise Would Cost You
CBA Head of Australian Economics Belinda Allen expects the Reserve Bank to lift the cash rate by 0.25 points to 4.60% on Tuesday, according to CommBank’s newsroom. Michael Janda at ABC News reports that all four major banks now expect a September rise.
For a mortgage holder, the cost is real. Eden Radford at Canstar reports that Canstar’s Sally Tindall estimates a 0.25 point rise would add about $91 a month to a $600,000 owner occupier loan with 25 years left, if the banks pass it on in full. The decision is due at 2.30pm AEST on Tuesday. If your budget is already tight, now is a good time to review your subscriptions and your big purchases for the month.
Lions Win the Flag, and the NRL Decider Is Next
The Brisbane Lions came from behind to beat Fremantle by seven points, 14.12 (96) to 12.17 (89), at the MCG yesterday, reports Callum Twomey at AFL.com.au. League fans have one more week to wait. Panthers and Knights play the second preliminary final today, and the Grand Final is at Accor Stadium on Sunday 4 October, according to NRL.com.
If you are thinking about a new TV before then, the JB Hi-Fi Footy Finals Frenzy runs to 7 October and the Harvey Norman TV Sale has selected deals ending Wednesday 30 September.

CHOICE found that prices for its basket of non specials groceries have risen at ALDI, Woolworths, Coles and IGA since June, reports Erin Barton at CHOICE. ALDI was still the cheapest of the four, at $40.10 for the basic basket.
Specials still matter. The current Coles and Woolworths catalogues run to Tuesday 29 September, and the new ones start on Wednesday. Coles posts a preview of its next catalogue from 5pm on Monday, so check it before you write Wednesday’s shopping list.
